In all military careers they pay by rank. The higher a person ranks, the higher the pay! Some things you can do to get a higher rank are:

Also you are vulnrable to dishonorable discharge which will exterminate your duty and also your pay. Behavior, attitude, and bad fitness will determine pay raise.
Moving up.
In the Navy, they will pay you according to your rank. The lowest being a Navy Seaman Recruit, which is your rank when you first join, and the highest being a Navy Captain. Your rank is independent from your career but with experience and years in the military will move you up. After nine months of active service you ranking will start moving up and so will your pay. (Pay is dependent on rank)
